Sin embargo esto no es todo lo que puede hacer el Free.
Hey guys,If you were like me living under a damn rock all these years, you probably recently heard terms like PS2 soft-mods or Free McBoot being thrown around, and people being able to play backups on their PS2s and all these other cool things like playing games off of USB sticks (convenient for handhelds) and all sorts of other good stuff. Well today, I'm going to keep things simple for people out there like me who struggled to find materials and wasted all sorts of time, and teach you how to get Free McBoot on your systems at home in only 2 to 3 hours time (give or take).
I installed it on my system a little differently than most. I'll explain further in.
Materials:
1 blank DVD-R
1 blank CD-R
Any game that has a .elf, preferably an older one. Newer ones have disc checks that are very tricky to bypass.
A PS1 game
CogSwap ELF
uLaunchELF ISO
Apache
ImgBurn (you can use other programs that can make and burn image files to/from discs if you prefer)
1: Take the game with the ELF(s) and put it in your CD drive in your computer.
2: Make an image file of the game in imgburn or similar.
3: Open Apache, and open the image file in it.
3 1/2: Before the next step, change the name of the cogswap elf to what the name of the elf is on the disc. (Like if it's called NTGUI.ELF on the disc, rename the CogSwap ELF NTGUI.ELF)
4: Highlight the ELF (Most of the time it's the internet configuration ELF. Regardless, make sure you know how to access it in-game.) And we need to change that elf to the CogSwap Elf. In ISO Tools drop down menu, click 'Chance TOC for selected file' Don't change the LBA but make the size 58160. Click update and direct it to the CogSwap ELF.
5: Save the changes we made to the image file and close out Apache.
6: Now we have to burn that modified image file back to a disc. Burn it using whatever burning software you prefer, and make sure the write speed is low enough that it's nice and accurate. (4x is fine. It's slow enough that it is accurate but fast enough that it gets done sooner) (Even if it burns at a snail's pace, we should be able to clock in under the 3 hour mark. And it's always better to have a game that plays nicely since we took our time than have a game that glitches, lags and freezes since we rushed it. Kind of like the story of the tortoise and the hare.)
7: Burn the uLaunchELF ISO to a CD. Again, the slower the better.
8: Using any size any brand USB stick or usb hard drive (make sure it's formatted any variant of FAT)(FAT, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, I'm not sure if ExFAT works though) Copy over all the Free McBoot installation files. There should be an ELF, and 3 folders called INSTALL, lang and licenses. The readmes and changelogs don't need to be there but just leave them.
9: Now this part may require you to disassemble your PS2 if its a fat. If it's a slim, do the sensor mod. Look up how to do that since I don't know how to do it (I used a fat)
10: After it's all prepared and disassembled (or sensor-modded) Put the real game in the drive (If your using a fat, put the white buffer from the drive's cover over the spindle or else the game won't spin properly. That's there for that very reason.) And turn the system's power on. Let the game boot up and go to the main menu.
11: Here, swap the discs. Now go to the menu to access the ELF. If it's an in-game demo or the internet configuration mode, go to it. Now one of two things will happen: The CogSwap screen will pop-up, or the RSOD will. If the latter, we need to do a swap trick to avoid it. In the game I used, Jak X Combat Racing, it loads the ELF first, then does a disc check. Go to that menu again and see if this happens: the DVD should spin fast. This means it's loading the ELF. Then it should slow down. It's doing the disc check. Now do this process again and AS SOON AS IT SLOWS DOWN SWAP THE REAL GAME BACK IN!! There is very little room for error here. If you got it right, CogSwap should load. Congratulations! You just did the hardest part of this process!
12: When you see the CogSwap screen, eject the disc, or unblock the sensors. Put a PS1 game in the tray and load it up, or block the sensors again. (Don't forget the buffer fat users!)
13: When it shows up the PS1 Disc on the screen, the disc will stop. Swap it with the uLaunchELF disc and press X.
13.5: A little word of notice: The uLaunchELF disc will spin like crazy! It's completely normal.
14: When uLaunchELF loads up, put your USB in a slot on the front of the system. Press O to go to the file browser, and navigate to mass:/ (Annoyingly, O is the primary select button here. After the install is complete, you can change it if you want.)
